Oesophageal Manometry
This study provides information on oesophageal peristalsis, the upper and lower sphincters, presence of herniation and disorders of motility such as spasm.
Ambulatory pH Monitoring
Documents the presence of any acid in the oesopahgus to determine the pattern and severity of reflux and relate this to symptoms such as heartburn, chest pain or cough.

Medical Physiologist
Ian Adams is the principal Medical Physiologist and Director of Oesophageal Diagnostic Services. He has performed oesophageal function studies on a full-time basis since 1979 and to date has a personal experience of some 100,000 patient cases. Trained in the UK, Ian has been in practice in Australia since 1994.

One of the world’s most experienced gut physiologists with 51 scientific publications and contributions to books.
Ian performs the studies and is responsible for interpretation of clinical data. He has recognised expertise in documenting complex post-surgical problems and provides a regular service to the NSW lung transplant team. We also act as a tertiary referral site for patients where existing diagnostic data may be unreliable or conflicting.
Dr John P. Caska is the Clinical Director with a longstanding interest in the diagnosis and management of oesophageal disease and in particular its impact on the individual and family.
